Sometimes the book you want to read only exists in another language. Libtro automatically translates EPUB books, chapter by chapter, and delivers a new EPUB in the language you choose, keeping the structure of the book (chapters, titles and table of contents).
How to translate
- Upload the book to My files. If it is in PDF, Libtro first prepares a text version; scanned PDFs need text recognition.
- Open Actions → Translate, choose the target language and confirm.
- The translation runs in the background. Follow the progress in the Queue: long books take more time.
- When it is done, download the translated EPUB or send it straight to the Kindle.
What to expect from machine translation
The translation is done by a machine. It is good for understanding the story and the content, but it does not replace a professional translator: idioms, puns, poetry and dialogue with slang may come out literal or strange. Proper names are sometimes translated when they shouldn't be.
A good rule: use machine translation to read something that would not otherwise reach you, and prefer a professionally translated edition when one exists.
Copyright
Translating a book for personal reading is different from distributing the translation. Do not share or publish translations of protected works without permission from the rights holder. Works in the public domain can be used freely.
Privacy
The text of the book is used only to generate the translation you requested. The result stays available for 7 days, and you can delete it earlier, whenever you want.
